Jon Burr's CD Releases
Jon & Lynn
Jon & Lynn Duo CD with vocalist Lynn Stein, featuring melodic pop, American songbook, jazz and a couple of Jon originals
"… a virtuoso on Bass, …a stunning singer... With a tone as clear as a bell, and very precise diction, she brings new life to a wide array of old chestnuts (and two originals) backed by a… witty … melodic .. minimalist … always steady upright bass. This works, folks!—Chuck Bolger, Jazz or Something Like It (Mar 17, 2010)
Just Can’t Wait

Also featured are saxophonists Houston Person, Bob Mintzer, Anat Cohen, and Joel Frahm, trumpeter Dominic Farinacci, pianists Ted Rosenthal, Jon Davis and Loston Harris, guitarists John Hart, Yotam Silberstein, and Howard Alden, drummers Anthony Pinciotti and David Gibson, and percussion master Carlos "Go-Go" Gomez.
“Burr ... went beyond a Buddy Rich, Tony Bennett or Stan Getz because he was the songwriter and lyricist as well as a performer. Burr simply dared to take that extra step of creating and presenting original, unfamiliar material. These artists really had respect for the music... Throughout, it was clear this was not an ego trip but a group of musicians performing with a common goal of creating the best music with the highest standards of musical performance. Finally, someone had the courage to try something new within the traditions of jazz and popular music."—Greg Waters, AllAboutJazz.com

3 For All
Jon Burr's "3 for All" Trio CD featuring Bucky Pizzarelli and Sir Roland Hanna was commissioned by Cymekob Records as a follow-up to Jon's first release "In My Own Words," issued the previous year.
“When bassist Jon Burr brought together pianist Roland Hanna and seven-string wiz Bucky Pizzarelli for this recording, these sometime cohorts meshed their differences into easy swing, hard bop and somber intensity. Hanna's percussive playing paired with Pizzarelli's rhythmic force joins with Burr's melodic bass to create a sound that's light, bright, driving and moody, and offers surprises for the careful listener.
This Three for All has something for everyone.”—Sunsh Stein, Jazz TImes
In My Own Words
Jon Burr Quartet CD featuring Rich Perry on tenor sax, Bill Charlap on piano and Terry Clarke on drums, playing a collection of Burr originals.
"This is a terrific recording, a first class quartet under the leadership of a fine bassist, Jon Burr. Bassists have a way of surprising people when they come out of the rhythm section role and reveal a talent for composition, arrangement, and the balance and direction of an ensemble. There is a feel here not unlike that of vintage Steps Ahead: certainly Rich Perry's tone on tenor recalls Michael Brecker, and the leader's supple sense of time in ensemble playing matches up well with that of Eddie Gomez. Burr's solos bring out a voice very much his own, however, a voice we hear more of in the even dozen engagingly melodic compositions that he has contributed to the session. Bill Charlap on piano and Terry Clarke on drums round out the band - and the result is as well-rounded as one might ask."—Bill Bennett, Jazz Times
